Ram Kumar Bhandari
Ram is a Nepali human rights activist, journalist, and academic. He chairs the National Network of Families of the Disappeared and Missing (NEFAD), a grassroots organisation campaigning for justice for victims of conflict era crimes, including the disappearance of his own father. As a journalist he writes for national press on themes of justice, impunity, and the victim’s movement. He is currently in Europe researching victimhood and participatory action.
Iona Liddell
Iona is the advocacy director of Peace Brigades International in Nepal. Her talk will focus on the role PBI plays in supporting human rights defenders in Nepal. PBI sends teams of volunteers to accompany human rights defenders at risk around the world, and to advocate for the protection and promotion of human rights.
Ruth Marsden
Ruth’s Ph.D. research is about disappearances and the politics of loss in Nepal. Her talk will focus on the current political challenges and opportunities for seeking truth and justice for the disappeared in Nepal, and reflect on the history of anti-impunity work in Nepal.
