Ordinary people doing extraordinary things

A human rights defender (HRD) is somebody who works nonviolently to promote and protect the human rights of others.

From women's groups, to indigenous communities, to lawyers, we accompany a wide variety of threatened defenders working in different parts of the world.

What they all have in common is that they are struggling for human rights against heavy odds and facing threats or violence as a consequence of simply carrying out their work

Hear from human rights defenders in their own words.
