PBI UK on BBC radio 4

Julie Christie reading PBI UK's appeal

PBI UK’s patron, actress Julie Christie, presented BBC radio 4's charity appeal on behalf of PBI UK to help raise much-needed funds.

Julie tells the powerful story of Soraya Gutierrez, a Colombian human rights lawyer, who is protected by PBI’s international volunteers after receiving death threats because of her work standing up for human rights.

Soraya is the President of a collective of lawyers called CCAJAR (José Alvear Restrepo Lawyers’ Collective). CCAJAR are committed to creating a Colombia where constitutional norms are valued, international human rights law is respected and there is due process of law.

PBI makes a difference

With PBI, Soraya continues her vital work

Soraya Gutierrez works in a climate of fear and hostility.

As a Colombian lawyer she faces being forced into exile, intimidated, threatened and even being "disappeared" because of her work standing up for human rights.

But with the protection of PBI volunteers by her side, Soraya has the confidence to continue.
