Current UK field volunteersWe have an excellent track record in recruiting and sending professionally trained volunteers into the field. PBI's current UK field volunteers are listed here: John HampsonJohn is 34 and comes from Derbyshire. He previously worked in climate research. In 2004, John volunteered with a human rights project (not PBI) in Guatemala, and after he this started thinking about joining PBI. He spent over a year working on the Mexico project. Prior to this he did amongst other work as a tour leader in Latin America. He will be starting his Masters in Human Rights at LSE in October 2008. Read more... Mary ScottMary is 55 years old and lives in Wales. She spent a year working on the Guatemala project. She raised her three sons as a single parent. When her youngest son left home she successfully completed the TEFL training course and went to Peru where she taught English to adults for 5 years. He joined the Bogota team of the Colombia project in January 2005 and stayed until April 2007. Prior to volunteering for PBI he studied linguistics and then International Conflict. Read more... Paul MukerjiPaul is 39 and comes from Birmingham. He spent a year in Colombia working on the Bogota team and has just come to the end of an 8 month stint in Uraba. He previously worked as a tour manager and as an English teacher. She worked on the Colombia team with PBI in 2006, and is currently working on a project for Amnesty International in a different region, but still keeps up to date with progress in Colombia. Taline HaytayanTaline is 33 and originates from Lebanon but after 24 years in the UK says London is now her hometown. She has a BA in Politics & French, an MA in Area Studies (Near & Middle East) and a Diploma in Information Science. She worked in knowledge management for 6 years before joining the Barrancabermeja and Uraba team of the Colombia project in September 2004. Read more... Katherine MoteKatharine Mote started volunteering with the Indonesia Project in Wamena, Papua in August 2006, when the team’s focus was on socialising PBI throughout the highlands. After working in Wamena for 5 months, Katharine was transferred to Banda Aceh, where she stayed until her contract finished in October 2007. Prior to working with PBI, Katharine worked in Sri Lanka with the Business for Peace Alliance, a joint International Alert-UNDP project. Moving from Sri Lanka to Aceh, Katharine has been fascinated to compare the differences between these two areas historically affected by conflict and subsequently hit by the tsunami. |
